Gerhard Langenfeld is devoting his artistic interest to monochromal painting and to the perception of color, in particular even not exclusively black color. He explores and communicates  with the variables of color values and materials putting his works between color field painting and conceptual art. His collection of black paint consist out of more than 600 different hues of black or close to black colors which he uses to create his works on canvases, panels, metal plates, photographs, or even brushed sandpapers. Langenfeld had a close intellectual interaction with the work of Ad Reinhardt due to his works should be seen in the succession of classic Black Painting.
